Hello March! Wait, how can it be March already? February was a brilliant and busy month and with it came lots of new favourites to share with you. I’ve got beauty bits, places to visit, books to read, TV to watch and more in this slightly mammoth wrap-up of the month.
February Favourites: Beauty
I have two beauty favourites for February. The first is Clinique’s Anti-Blemish Solutions Cleansing Gel. I love Clinique’s Anti-Blemish range, and I use the 3-step with the Cleansing Foam, Clarifying Lotion and Clearing Treatment every day. But when I recently ran out of the Cleansing Foam and noticed my spots returning I rummaged through my cupboards and discovered that I had a little bottle of the Cleansing Gel from a previous Clinique freebie.
When you’re actually using the Cleansing Gel in the shower or over the sink, it doesn’t feel like it’s doing much. It’s smooth and silky so it doesn’t seem to be getting rid of any dead skin, and it doesn’t tingle at all. But every time, when I’m getting ready to apply my make-up, I’m surprised by how smooth my skin feels afterwards. It’s so nice! I’m not certain it’s tackling my spots quite as well as the Cleansing Foam does, but it definitely makes my skin feel amazing.
The Clinique Cleansing Gel is available in a 125ML bottle for £18 here.
My second beauty favourite is something I only recently discovered existed even though I’m sure they’ve been around for years. I’m terrible (and I mean TERRIBLE) at applying eyeliner and mascara. Despite doing it every day for what must be ten years, I’d say that five days out of seven it goes a bit wrong. I’ve been using cotton buds to rectify the problem, and they’ve always worked pretty well.
But then I discovered Cosmetic Applicator Buds in Tesco! Right next to the normal cotton buds. They feel exactly the same as cotton buds but one end has a sort of pointy tip and the other has a flat, circular tip. The pointy end is perfect for correcting my eyeliner mistakes and the flat one helps me get rid of those flecks of black that sometimes find their way beneath my eyelashes.
You get 80 in a pot for £1.25, so it’s a small price to pay for flawless eyeliner. You can buy them here.
February Favourites: Travel
This month, I went to Barcelona for the third year in a row for a technology conference called Mobile World Congress. For those of you who don’t know, I’m a technology journalist by day, and part of my job involves jetting around the globe to these big trade shows. It sounds glamorous but most of my time is spent inside a busy hall with no windows, so I really could be anywhere.
We did get to go out in the evenings, though, so I’ve a couple of recommendations for anyone planning on paying Barcelona a visit.
The first is an amazing restaurant called Asador De Aranda, which is famous for its lamb (which was SO GOOD).
The second is an amazing cocktail bar on Las Ramblas called Boadas. It doesn’t have a menu, because you can ask the bow-tie adorned bartenders for any cocktail you can think of. It’s a tiny place and it’s a bit hidden but that just adds to its charm.
And finally, you should definitely pay a visit to the Fairy Bar called El Bosc de les Fades. It’s filled with enchanting trees and décor, and the drinks are reasonably priced, too. It’s completely bizarre and a little bit tacky but I loved it anyway. Stupidly, I didn’t take any photos.. doh!
February Favourites: Books
My favourite book of the month was Inferno, the sequel to Vendetta, which was equally amazing. Think modern day Romeo and Juliet with loads of action, plenty of suspense and a very generous helping of swoon.
February Favourites: Food and drink
My household has become a bit obsessed with Whittard. We got a gorgeous hamper of Whittard tea and hot chocolate for Christmas, and we used a voucher that was about to expire to buy more from Debenhams this month. My favourites are the Instant Tea flavours shown above. So delicious and perfect for winding down in the evening before bed.
February Favourites: TV
It took a while but I finally finished watching Jessica Jones in February and boy was it good. Seriously, go watch it. The whole first season is available on Netflix. It took me a bit of time to get into it but by the time I’d hit the middle of the season I couldn’t stop watching it. I’ve heard it’s the perfect show to binge watch, too.
February Favourites: Movies
I was surprised by how much I loved Deadpool. A group of us went to see it in the cinema and I couldn’t stop laughing. It’s rude, violent and sometimes cheesy but it is so friggin’ good. I actually can’t wait to watch it again.
So there you have it, my February favourites. Leave links to your favourites of the month in the comments and I’ll be sure to check them out 🙂
Cotton buds of any size are lift savers, that’s for sure! The ones that are shaped that way, though, look incredible. It’s probably a good thing I’ve never seen them, I’d be buying so many of each 😉 And those teas look so cute! I would buy them just for the canister! The apple one, I bet, is super yummy 🙂
