The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky Review

The Perks of Being a Wallflower – Stephen Chbosky

Told through a series of letters, Stephen Chbosky’s The Perks of Being a Wallflower is the story of Charlie, a troubled 15-year-old in his first year of high school.

The book takes the reader through the entire school year, as Charlie meets new friends, falls in love, and also discovers sex and drugs. It’s an honest account of a teenage boy’s life, with some unexpected twists and intricate relationships.

But, what really makes this novel so powerful is the character development. I feel like I know Charlie. There’s something about him that every reader can relate to. It’s fascinating.

If you’re looking for an action packed drama or whirlwind romance, The Perks of Being a Wallflower is probably not for you. But, if you’re after a thought provoking tale of growing up, look no further.

I’m looking forward to watching the movie, it’ll be interesting to see how they adapt the novel, that’s for sure.

My rating:

**** 4/5
